The day corrector is slim and worn inside your shoe: it separates the big toe from the other toes and eases rubbing and pressure while you walk and stand. The night corrector holds more firmly and is worn at home or while you sleep, without a shoe, working on gradual alignment while you rest. For most people the best option is both: the day corrector for comfort through your day, and the night corrector for cumulative correction.
This is one of the questions we're asked most on WhatsApp and Instagram before people order: "Do I need one for work or one for sleeping?" The answer depends on what bothers you more — the pain while you walk, or the shape and lean of the big toe itself — and on how much time you have to wear it. In this article we compare the two types in practical terms, so you choose right the first time. (If you know it as a toe corrector, a toe spacer or a medical foot corrector, it's the same product.)
Comparison table: night vs day
| Day corrector | Night corrector | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it's worn | Inside your shoe, at work and when you're out | At home and while you sleep, without a shoe |
| Thickness | Slim, flexible silicone gel | Wider, with a supporting frame |
| Hold | Light to medium, comfortable for long hours | Firmer, holds the big toe at an angle closer to straight |
| Main goal | Easing pain and rubbing while you move | Gradual alignment while you rest |
| Who benefits most | People who stand or walk a lot at work | People whose goal is to change the shape of the big toe over time |
| Nahleh product | All-day corrector | Advanced home corrector |
When to use the night corrector
The night corrector makes use of the time when your foot is resting and carrying no weight. During those hours there's no shoe pressing on it, so the corrector can hold the big toe with a firmer pull and at an angle closer to straight — which is why its effect on alignment builds up over the weeks. Choose the night corrector if:
- The bunion is clearly visible and your main goal is to gradually change the position of the big toe.
- You have a fixed time at home every day (in the evening or while you sleep) that you can commit to.
- Your pain gets worse at the end of the day and you want to rest the joint at night.
- Your job doesn't allow you to wear anything extra inside your shoe.
When to use the day corrector
The day corrector is designed to go with you through your normal day without changing your routine. It puts a soft separator between the big toe and the second toe, and covers the bony bump so it doesn't rub directly against your shoe. Choose the day corrector if:
- Pain and redness appear while you walk or stand for long hours.
- Your job keeps you on your feet (teaching, nursing, sales, salons).
- You wear formal shoes to work and want protection from rubbing.
- You want to start with something light before moving on to a firmer hold.
Can you use both together?
Yes — and in practice this gives the clearest result. A bunion is affected by the pressure on the big toe across the whole day, so the more hours you cover, the faster the improvement. The routine we recommend to our customers:
- In the morning and at work: the day corrector inside your shoe.
- When you get home: take off the day corrector and let your foot rest for a quarter of an hour.
- In the evening or before bed: the night corrector for at least two hours, or all night once you're used to it.
Using both isn't necessary for everyone. If your case is mild and it only hurts when you walk, the day corrector on its own may be enough. Also read our honest answer on how well a corrector works to know what to expect for your degree of bunion.
Nahleh products for both
The Vitella all-day corrector is made of silicone gel and breathable fabric, slim enough to fit under a sock and inside most shoes. It comes as a pair (two pieces, one for each foot) for JD 15.000, in one size that fits most feet. Its advantage is that it works during the day inside your shoe, and you can also wear it at home or while you sleep if you don't have a night corrector.
The advanced home corrector is made for home and sleep and isn't worn with shoes. It has a flexible hinge that moves with your foot, so it doesn't hold you back as you walk around at home, and it's adjustable to fit all sizes. It comes as a single piece for JD 16.000 that you can switch between your right and left foot. If you have a bunion on both feet and want to wear them at the same time, there are offers on two pieces or more on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sleep in it all night?
Not from the first day. Start with an hour or two before bed for a week, and if you don't feel any tingling or pain, increase the time gradually until you can sleep in it all night. The pull should feel comfortable, not tight.
Can I wear it with socks?
The all-day (day) corrector, yes: it's slim and designed to fit under a sock and inside your shoe. The home corrector is worn directly on the foot at home, and you can put a loose sock over it if you want to keep warm at night.
Does it work with formal shoes?
The day corrector works with most formal shoes, as long as the front of the shoe isn't too narrow. If the shoe is already tight on the bump, the problem is the shoe before the corrector, and it's better to choose a wider toe box.
Is the home corrector for one foot or both?
The home corrector is a single piece that fits either the right or the left foot, so you can switch it between your feet. If you have a bunion on both feet and want to wear two on the same night, order two pieces from the product page.
